Greetings to my shipmates of the HMS Wizard. I knew without opening a recent e-mail from the Association that my pen pal from Wales has passed away. I am so sad that after years of corresponding with Ady Medford that I never had the chance to visit Wales or attend a reunion meeting. I do hope that there will be a time in the future that I can travel from Iowa to Britain and maybe even attend a reunion meeting. I hope my standing as an honorary shipmate will allow me to attend! I do so miss the letters and photos and news that I exchanged with Ady over the past several years. God Bless You All!

Very interesting site! We enjoyed viewing the site with Janet's father Ted Stokes who was on the Wizard (as a stoker)at the time of the 'accident' in Scapa Flow and stayed with her throughout the subsequent refit and for the remainder of the war. The photographs have provoked him into relaying various stories to us of his adventures! He has some personal photographs relating to his time on the Wizard and has promised to dig them out and show us, should this ever happen I will scan them and pass them on to you.
He mentioned that at the time of the Japanese surrender he was tasked to crew the ships motorboat and transport a clandestine gentleman who was dressed as a civilian into a small Japanese fishing village where the man promptly disappeared on foot for a couple of hours, he was then transported back to the Wizard having not uttered a word.

Thank you for printing my story about my father and his rescue by the Wizard. I wish that I could make a trip to Britain and shake the hand of all those who were a part of my father's rescue! My special thanks to Adeline Medford for her long distance friendship over the past several years! We have never met but you can be sure that Bonnie (my wife) and I truly care for you!
