Message the owner is a fool....a bitter and greedy little man......the shared rooms were a disgrace - horrible smell of cat piss......large insects all over the place - not sure the rooms have ever been given a good clean......avoid the owner at all costs |

Message beware all - the guy that owns this place is not right in the head............he is a two-faced, dishonest and greedy little man and i would urge you to be cautious and ask plenty of questions before you organize a jungle trip through him - he will have you convinced you are getting a well planned and rock-bottom price for the jungle trip when in reality he is making a tidy profit from you and the trip is a disorganized mess......i know because i went on a trip organized by him through the mahatu hostel.......just be careful and dont fall for his initial charm.....i would NOT recommend this as a place to stay but the town is very limited in budget accomodation so unfortunately this guy has the monopoly on the backpacker scene......... |

Message I stayed for 5 days in the jungle house near Maues and had a great time. It was very similar to a homestay and I was really able to interact with not only the nature of the rainforest but also with the culture and the people that live in the surrounding area. Our hosts were so helpful and did everything they could to let us have a great time in virgin rainforest. |

Message We had an awesome time in the Mahatu jungle house near Maues. We stayed 4 nights and 5 days and spent each day exploring the jungle in any way we chose. We were also taken hunting for caiman and for animals in the jungle. The area is in the middle of complete jungle and an Amazon experience doesn't get any more legitimate than this one. |
